Instructions

Please enter your name, telephone contact and a time you would like to donate blood or send us an email to admin@sewatt.org and we will schedule you to donate.

Appointments are required. Walk-ins will not be accepted at this Drive.

Requirements for donating blood

• Be in generally good health and feeling well
• Be at least 18 years of age; upper age 65
• Weigh at least 110 pounds
• Good Blood Pressure
• We advise that you consult your doctor if you are on any medications to confirm that it is safe for you to donate.

You cannot donate if:

• You have the cold or flu symptoms over the past 2 weeks
• You had dental surgery done within 3 days or 72 hours (extraction - root canal etc.)
• You have travelled to South , Central America, Asia or any malaria-endemic area less than 3 months
• You have a piercing or tattoo that is less than 3 months
• You received the Covid-19 Vaccine, booster or any other vaccines less than 2 weeks before the blood drive
• You have a a history of Hepatitis B or Hepatitis C, Human T Lymphotropic Virus 1 (HTLV-1)
• You were diagnosed with HIV infection

Preparation tips

• Stop smoking at least 2 hours before donation
• Stop consuming alcohol 24 hours before donation
• Ensure that you have a good meal before attending the blood drive
• Walk with one form of ID and your Blood Donors’ Card if you are a regular donor.
• If you are under 17 years ensure you have written consent from a parent/guardian

Blood donation process

• Confidential discussion with a nurse. All answers are treated in the strictest confidence.
• A tiny drop of blood is taken from your fingertip. This allows us to check your hemoglobin levels and ensure that giving blood won't make you anemic.
• If all is well, you will be able to donate blood.
• You will donate about 470ml of blood - this amount of blood is quickly replaced by your body.
• You will receive light refreshments when you have completed your blood donation. All in all giving blood shouldn't take more than an hour.

After Donating

• No physical activities for 24 hours.
• No consumption of alcohol for 24 hours
• No smoking for at least 2 hours
• Drink lots of fluid
• Blood will be replaced in 24 hours
